Purpose:

Leads business unit responsible for enterprise data and analytics strategy, governance, enablement, best practice education, and (Data & Analytics) portfolio implementation.  Develops and implements long range data and analytic strategy in alignment with corporate strategy, goals, and tactics enabling data driven decision making and insight generation. 

Roles & Responsibilities:

Collaboration & Leadership:

  • Closely collaborate with partners and stakeholders to mature our data driven road map and associated data-driven investments and governance processes or policies.
  • Educate and support stakeholders in data literacy and drive efforts to collect, manage, and use both internal and external data to drive efficiencies and better decision-making.
  • Creates strategic direction for Enterprise Data and Analytics Team.
  • Monitor the industry trends and tool advancements in the market.
  • Actively takes steps to recruit and retain a more diverse team and along with promoting inclusion.
  • Demonstrated leadership in developing, empowering, attracting, and retaining talent. 
  • Ensures that each associate has an objective to build expertise and capabilities appropriate for their role, including any specific training requirements to maintain professional designations.
  • Direct and manage a team of professional data engineers and analytics consultants to design, develop, and implement future or existing data analytic solutions or prototypes in partnership with our partners such as IT.
  • Participate in forecasting, budget, and staff based on volumes and growth projections to meet department service goals and company financial goals.
  • Analyze and develop new policies, procedures, and workflows to continuously improve efficiencies, working environments, and system support services.
  • Holds regular one-on-one meetings with direct reports to have dialogue that includes coaching and development.
  • Research, develop, and implement system improvements that exceed industry leaders to ensure our competitive edge in the marketplace.

Project & Portfolio Management:

  • Deliver solutions that meet business requirements while managing cost, timeliness, and quality.
  • Manage projects as requested, utilizing a standard project management methodology.
  • Development, prioritize, and monitoring defects and enhancements as well as continuing operational support.
  • Create actionable deliverables for the core change management plans: Sponsor Plan, People Manager Plan, Communications Plan, and Training Plan for new initiatives and projects.
  • Lead communication of program results and adoption metrics to measure and communicate key information of our data driven road map and associated data-driven investments and governance processes or policies.
  • Develop project deliverables such as charters, business cases, project schedules, etc.
  • Effectively present information in group settings.
  • Manages the relationship with the project sponsors and all stakeholders.
  • Takes responsibility for the definition, approach, facilitation, and satisfactory completion of projects and reports to management.
  • Safeguards that realistic project plans are maintained. Identifies, assesses, and manages issues and risks.
  • Manages the change control procedure and ensures that project deliverables are completed within agreed cost, timescale, and resource budgets.
  • Monitors, analyses, assesses deviation from project plan, and ensures the achievement of project milestones.
  • Provides guidance to the project team and takes appropriate action where team performance deviates from agreed tolerances.

Required Technical Skills: 

  • Strong leadership skills within the Information Technology and/or AMIG business community.
  • Strong knowledge in conceptual, logical, and/or physical data modeling including technical infrastructure.
  • Extensive and strong communication and influencing skills to drive change and alignment.
  • Proficient in managing projects of all sizes.
  • Extensive Experience in managing project portfolios (Portfolio Director).
  • Strong problem solving, diagnostic, and analytical skills.
  • Strong knowledge using Cognos and/or TM1 Suite of tools.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite of tools including MS Project.
  • Knowledge of data gathering using Structured Query Language (SQL).
  • Understanding of BI and related technical platforms.
  • Advanced knowledge of Data Warehouse/Business Intelligence and Analytics project lifecycle (SDLC), tools, technologies, testing, and best practices.
  • Understanding of data Modeling, Information Technology Architecture, and development best practices.
  • Broad understanding of statistical reporting demands, requirements, and compliance implications.
  • Extensive knowledge of insurance data, terminology, and common insurance, financial, and business metrics.

Skills / Knowledge / Experience: 

  • Typically 7 or more years of project leadership experience with increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Strong ability to analyze very complex problems and break them down into logical parts and offer options/solutions.
  • Seen as thought leader by other project team members.
  • Experienced with applying project management tools and techniques.
  • Broad understanding of information technologies, their uses, and applications.
  • Assures implementation and monitors effectiveness of SDLC Methodology. Works closely with contacts outside the company, such as consultants and vendors.

Education, Certifications & Designations: 

Required: 

  • Bachelor of Arts or Science degree or equivalent work experience.

Preferred: 

  • CIC, CPCU, or ARM
