Senior Actuary

We are adding to our diverse team of experts and are looking to hire those who are committed to building a culture that enables the creation of innovative solutions for our business units and clients.

The Company

Munich Re America Services (MRAS) is a shared service organization that delivers services to all Munich Re US P&C Companies and other group entities.

As a member of Munich Re's US operations, we offer the financial strength and stability that comes with being part of the world's preeminent insurance and reinsurance brand. Our risk experts work together to assemble the right mix of products and services to help our clients stay competitive – from traditional reinsurance coverages, to niche and specialty reinsurance and insurance products.

The Opportunity

Future focused and always one step ahead!

We’re adding to our diverse team of experts and are looking to hire a Senior Actuary to enrich our Global Specialty Insurance United States (GSI US) Business Unit Reserving team within Corporate Reserving.

The responsibility of Corporate Reserving is to use quantitative and qualitative methods to perform and oversee the loss reserve analyses for Munich Re’s property and casualty business in the US. This includes continuous monitoring of the reserve position, developing a core understanding of the GSI US portfolio, and communicating the impact of reserving analyses and decisions on the financial results of GSI US.

As part of the GSI Reserving team, your role is to become a strategic partner with our business unit utilizing actuarial expertise, while broadening and deepening portfolio knowledge accompanied with market trends to provide business insights to support profitable growth. This partnership should be built on trust and collaboration, while preserving independent actuarial judgment and a clear focus on the balance sheet strength of Munich Re.

Your Job

  • Own and lead the reserving process for an assigned insurance portfolio, from data readiness and actuarial analysis through closing, reporting, governance, documentation, and communication of results.
  • Act as a trusted interface between Corporate Reserving and business partners across actuarial, underwriting, claims, finance, accounting, and reporting teams, locally and globally.
  • Develop deep portfolio knowledge across exposure, pricing, underwriting, claims, market, aggregation, and emerging-risk dynamics, and translate insights into sound reserving judgments and business decisions.
  • Continuously improve reserving processes, controls, data flows, methods, and tools for an evolving portfolio.
  • Lead cross-functional projects and team collaboration, coordinating contributors and deliverables across groups without relying on direct reporting relationships.
  • Prepare and present actuarial results, key judgments, trends, risks, and recommendations clearly to actuarial and non-actuarial audiences, including senior management.

Qualifications:

Successful candidates will possess the following skills/capabilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, mathematics, actuarial science, or a related quantitative field; master’s degree or MBA preferred.
  • Credentialed actuary, preferably ACAS, FCAS, or comparable.
  • At least five years of actuarial experience in cyber (re)insurance, with strong knowledge of loss drivers, portfolio dynamics, and reserving challenges.
  • Proven ability to own end-to-end actuarial processes and deliver high-quality results within reporting timelines.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence, build trust, and explain technical concepts and business implications clearly.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, including the ability to manage competing priorities, optimize processes, and coordinate contributors across teams.
  • Excellent quantitative and analytical skills, with sound judgment and clear documentation of assumptions and conclusions.
