Senior Actuarial Associate — Living Benefits (LB) Valuation

Location: New York, NY

About Corporate Actuarial – Valuation

Corporate Actuarial produces reserving and financial metrics across IFRS 17, US Stat/Health, and Solvency II. The team delivers accurate, forwardlooking financial information that supports senior management, Finance, ERM, Pricing, auditors, and regulators. Results from valuation drive thought leadership and informed decisionmaking across the organization.

The Role

This role will be a member of the Living Benefits (LB) Valuation team, which handles Individual Disability Income (IDI) and/or Long-Term Care (LTC) reporting.

The Senior Actuarial Associate’s primary responsibility is to support and help drive actuarial valuation activities for the Corporate Actuarial team, including valuation production, data analysis, results review, process documentation, controls, and recurring reporting deliverables. The role is expected to work with increasing independence, exercise sound actuarial judgment, and contribute to process improvements that enhance accuracy, efficiency, and transparency.

This role also provides opportunities to support cross-functional valuation initiatives, develop deeper knowledge of IDI and LTC business drivers, and contribute analysis and recommendations for ad-hoc projects across the valuation team.

Responsibilities

Production Support and Valuation:

  • Prepare, review, and explain periodic actuarial valuation results and production deliverables across applicable reporting frameworks, including data preparation, model execution support, results analysis, and recurring reporting materials.
  • Apply actuarial controls to validate data inputs, model outputs, and key financial movements, ensuring deliverables are accurate, timely, and supported by clear evidence and documentation.

Data, Analysis, and Documentation:

  • Perform data analysis, quality checks, and actual-to-expected analysis to support valuation, reporting, assumption review, and ad-hoc business needs.
  • Identify drivers of financial results, summarize key variances, and develop clear explanations for management, internal partners, and review teams.
  • Maintain and enhance supporting documentation for production processes, assumptions, data checks, controls, and work products.

Process Improvement, Projects, and Team Support:

  • Recommend and implement enhancements to recurring tools, templates, controls, and workflows to improve efficiency, consistency, and reproducibility.
  • Support management requests, audit support, model or process change initiatives, and other actuarial projects as needed.
  • Provide peer review and informal guidance to junior team members, helping build team knowledge, strengthen documentation, and maintain a collaborative production environment.

Your profile

  • Minimum ASA, with steady progress toward FSA preferred.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of actuarial experience, preferably in life, health, disability, long-term care, or reinsurance valuation.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, actuarial science, a quantitative discipline, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with the ability to independently investigate issues, assess reasonableness, and recommend practical solutions.
  • Ability to communicate results clearly, manage competing priorities, and work effectively with actuarial, finance, modeling, data, claims, and business partners.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and actuarial or data tools; experience with SQL, Moody’s AXIS, or other valuation/modeling platforms is preferred.
  • Life, health, disability, or long-term care product knowledge, including product design, features, and risks, is preferred.

Valuation, financial reporting, modeling, assumption review, or experience analysis background preferred.
