Facultative Property Senior Underwriter

The Opportunity

With this opportunity, your primary responsibility will be underwriting property facultative reinsurance programs in the US.  Facultative Underwriters are responsible for risk analysis and assessment, coverage evaluation, pricing and marketing to assigned brokers and clients.  This position will lead or assist in negotiations in order to maintain and develop a profitable facultative reinsurance portfolio. 

Responsibilities:

•    Independently underwrite and price moderate to highly complex business in accordance with corporate, divisional and department guidelines and philosophy.
•    Produce, underwrite, and manage the book of business in compliance with applicable underwriting guidelines, strategies, and best practices
•    Perform the underwriting referral function as specified and as required in the underwriting guidelines and mandates
•    Help refine and implement our portfolio strategy. Ensure high-quality underwriting through coaching, mentoring, technical guidance, and frequent feedback.
•    Develop and maintain strong market presence by developing client and broker strategies.
•    Develop new business opportunities and promote Group’s capabilities and competencies externally in close cooperation with Client Management.
•    Establish and maintain sound contact with clients and brokers, keeping abreast of market and industry developments and client needs.
•    Demonstrated superior negotiation skills, facilitating and managing the complexities and challenges associated with sourcing business.
•    Negotiate and conclude the offers, terms of contract with Brokers/Clients and, when necessary and feasible, submit counter proposals.
•    Lead interdepartmental projects to develop and implement underwriting strategies
•    Strong ability to lead a team technically by providing straight-forward, clear direction, guidance, and coaching.
•    Demonstrate advanced proficiency in the use of pricing models and other risk evaluation models
•    Strategic decision making based on data interpretation beyond models
•    Excellent written and oral communication skills
•    Able to adjust communication style to audience at all levels internally or externally 
•    Outstanding presentation skills, able to speak at professional seminars, panels, or workshops
•    Conduct and lead peer reviews of team members’ accounts 
•    Be a peer review resource to other distribution channels and Client Groups, providing underwriting expertise and input

Qualifications:

•    10+ years of experience in (re)insurance, broker community and/ or corporate risk market 
•    5+ years of underwriting experience preferred
•    Bachelor’s Degree preferred advanced degree a plus or CPCU, Professional designations a plus 
•    Superior Negotiation, Relationship Management and Marketing skills
•    Strong computer skills.
•    Excellent verbal/written language and communication skills.
•    Ability to work cross-functionally and cross-culturally to collaborate with teams in London, Munich and globally.
•    Ability to travel nationally and internationally - up to 30%

The Company is open to considering candidates in New York City (NY). The salary range posted below applies to the Company’s Manhattan location.

The base salary range anticipated for this position is $200,000 - $250,000 plus opportunity for company bonus based upon a percentage of eligible pay.  In addition, the company makes available a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, 401k match, retirement savings plan, paid holidays and paid time off (PTO).  

The salary estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for candidates hired in this position in New York City. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role. Most candidates will start in the bottom half of the range.
