Munich Re Beijing Branch, part of Munich Re, the world’s largest reinsurer, is seeking a Chief Actuary, to lead the actuarial function for Life & Health business in Greater China, overseeing Pricing, Valuation & Reporting, and Experience Analysis activities to support sustainable business growth, sound risk management, and regulatory compliance.

The position is based in Beijing and reports to the CEO Life & Health GC & CEO HK.

Your Role

Actuarial Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, manage, and develop a team of actuaries and analysts across Pricing, Valuation, and Experience Management.
  • Foster a high-performance culture focused on technical excellence, innovation, collaboration, and talent development.

Pricing Oversight

  • Providing support and advice to the various business units in Mainland China on product risks and pricing, including new product development, product innovation, portfolio optimization, and reinsurance solutions.
  • Ensure pricing methodologies, assumptions, and documentation are aligned with Munich Re standards and governance requirements.
  • Approve reinsurance quotations within delegated authority and manage referrals to regional or global committees for transactions exceeding local authority.

Valuation, Reporting & Actuarial Governance

  • Lead valuation and reporting activities, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of actuarial analyses, financial forecasts, valuation assumptions, and management reporting.
  • Oversee actuarial models used for pricing, valuation, forecasting, and business planning, ensuring ongoing enhancement and governance.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting, regulatory, and actuarial standards, including IFRS, local solvency frameworks, and internal requirements.
  • Partner with Finance, Risk Management, and Regional Actuarial functions to ensure consistency and transparency of actuarial results.

Experience Analysis & Data Analytics

  • Oversee experience investigations and portfolio monitoring across mortality, morbidity, lapse, health claims, and other relevant risk drivers.
  • Lead the development and implementation of data-driven insights to support underwriting, pricing, portfolio management, and strategic decision-making.
  • Drive continuous improvement in data quality, analytical capabilities, and actuarial processes.

Stakeholder Management & Market Representation

  • Represent the company in industry forums, actuarial associations, conferences, seminars, and client events.
  • Lead strategic and cross-functional projects supporting business transformation, operational efficiency, and market development.

Your Profile

  • Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Finance, or a related quantitative discipline
  • Qualified Actuary with a minimum of 15 years’ experience in life and health (re)insurance with sound knowledge of the Greater China markets
  • Excellent leadership and people development capabilities.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate across functions and cultures.
  • Fluent in English and Chinese.
