This role will be part of the Operations Projects Tower for Group Technology, responsible for delivering complex strategic change initiatives across operational domains including Infrastructure, Networks, Cloud, End User Compute, Service Management, and M&A onboarding projects. The Tower oversees multiple project portfolios, each led by senior change and people leaders, and ensures end-to-end project delivery, financial oversight, and alignment with business strategy. Key responsibilities include managing project budgets, prioritization, planning, and partnering with senior business leaders to achieve successful outcomes.

Operating as a global center of project and program excellence for change delivery, budget management, and people development within IT, the OP team enables transformation and ensures the successful implementation of technology solutions that underpin the Munich Re global organization. The team’s remit spans the full IT landscape — from the foundational network infrastructure to the end-user desktop experience. They are accountable for delivering measurable business benefits and outcomes, managing project budgets, maintaining the project roadmap, allocating and leading project resources, and ensuring the timely delivery of all project scopes. Four Portfolio Leads run several global portfolios of activity. Each portfolio delivers the strategic agenda and roadmap for a specific part of the IT Infrastructure or business demand.  Within each portfolio there are multiple projects, programs and project delivery resources. The four portfolio leads are Head of Sections and they and the Head of PMO report directly in the Global Head of Operations Projects.

Your Job

  • To run and manage a complex program or a set of inter-related projects with a budget of approximately €3m - €5m taking responsibility for their delivery using formal project management techniques as appropriate.
  • Oversee the execution of multiple concurrent projects, acting as the co-ordinator between multiple projects and deliverables to ensure they’re benefiting each other and align with the overall business goals and outcomes.
  • Establish and maintain processes for managing scope during the project lifecycle, setting quality and performance standards and assessing risks.
  • Ensure adherence and adoption of Munich Re’s project management methodology – ‘One Essentials’.  Actively contribute feedback to established methodologies, within the spirit of continuous improvement.
  • Defining project objectives, project scope, roles & responsibilities.
  • Defining resource requirements and managing resource availability & allocation – both internal and third party.
  • Outlining a budget based on requirements and tracking costs to deliver project on budget.
  • Preparing a detailed project plan to schedule key project milestones, workstreams & activities.  Managing delivery of the project according to this plan.
  • Tracking project and providing regular reports on project status to project team and key stakeholders, including executives.
  • Managing and adjusting for any changes in project scope, schedule and / or budget, in accordance with approved authorities and change processes.
  • Manage teams with a diverse range of talent, this may include both internal and external resources, providing leadership and direction.
  • Identifying and mitigating potential risks.
  • Managing the relationship and communication with the client and all stakeholders, including executive relationships in IT and client-facing business units.
  • Ensuring the project is delivered to sponsor’s satisfaction, and risks and issues including political concerns are well managed.
  • Advising, consulting and mentoring of other project managers in the team.
  • Coaching and consulting new hires for project management positions in the RI LH IT Tower.
  • Managing the program within budget constraints and with profound cost consciousness. Ensuring all program costs (actuals) are actively tracked and managed, including SOWs/Purchase Orders, Contracts, internal resource assignments, and that accurate forecasts and accruals are maintained in SAP (finances) and Clarity (resources).
  • Coordinating the completion of all documentation, change requests, approvals, lifecycle steps and compliance gate requests in a timely manner to ensure the projects in the program continue to align with the agreed schedule.
  • Any additional duties and responsibilities that may reasonably be expected to be undertaken in accordance with the role.

Your Profile

  • University degree in Computer Engineering, IT, Business Administration, Social Sciences or a comparable qualification 
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in delivering IT or digital projects, preferably within Financial Services or a regulated industry 
  • Strong project management expertise, including budgeting, cost control, resource planning, and effective prioritization 
  • Results- and customer-oriented mindset with proven ability to analyze complex requirements, solve problems pragmatically, and deliver sustainable outcomes 
  • Excellent organizational and coordination skills to manage functional and geographically distributed workstreams as well as internal and external stakeholders 
  • Outstanding communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience in addressing diverging interests and producing clear project status and management reports 
  • Team-oriented and collaborative working style with demonstrated leadership capabilities, including mentoring, coaching, and active knowledge sharing 
  • High level of initiative, flexibility, and resilience, with the ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities 
  • Strong attention to detail and experience working under strict governance and compliance requirements 
  • Consulting mindset with strong commercial and business awareness 
  • Fluent written and spoken German and English 
  • Willingness to travel internationally as required
