Founded in 1866, The Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company (HSB) was one of the first companies in America devoted primarily to industrial safety. Built on the belief that loss is preventable, HSB pioneered the integration of engineering inspections with insurance—establishing safety standards that transformed industry during the Industrial Revolution and continue to guide us today.

More than 150 years later, HSB remains an engineering‑driven organization focused on loss prevention and practical solutions. While our roots are in boiler and pressure equipment safety, our expertise now spans electrical systems, HVAC, refrigeration, water supply, telecommunications, and other critical technologies that support modern life and work
