As a specialty provider of primary insurance services Great Lakes Insurance SE (Great Lakes) with its branches in the United Kingdom, Australia, Switzerland, Italy and Ireland and its newly founded subsidiary in the UK, is an integral part of Munich Re Group and an important enabler for Specialty Insurance Business (GSI – Global Specialty Insurance) closely connected to Munich Re’s reinsurance core business.

To assist our Legal Team, which forms part of the Legal and Compliance Team at Great Lakes, based in Munich we are looking for a student intern for a minimum stay of 3 months full time or a working student for up to 20 hours per week. 

Your Job

  • Be an important part of our Legal team (currently 3 legal counsels) and support it in providing independent legal advice in accordance with the Team’s responsibilities by undertaking research work, in particular for general civil law, insurance contract law, insurance distribution law, insurance supervisory law, licensing law, and on aspects of consumer protection
  • Prepare and provide sound legal assessments on performed research tasks
  • Assist our legal counsel in drafting and negotiating Great Lakes’ contracts and amendments to such contracts
  • Collaborate in global teams with international colleagues
  • Cooperate closely with the Great Lakes Compliance team and with relevant stakeholders at Munich Re Group
  • Take on administrative and organisational tasks
  • Contribute to the team with innovative ideas on legal and organisational topics 

Your Profile

  • Currently enrolled in studies of law (intended degree Bachelor of Laws or Staatsexamen) at a German university from the 4th semester onwards;
  • Fluency in German and English; any other language beneficial;
  • Excellent knowledge of handling legal databases and researching a variety of topics through them;
  • Experience in contract drafting skills;
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office software (such as Word, Power Point and Excel)
  • Knowledge of the primary insurance business and regulatory environment is beneficial;
  • Interest in the wider business environment and technical issues;
  • Analytical, pragmatic thinker and solution orientated;
  • Ability to work in large complex projects;
  • Ability to communicate complex issues in an easily understandable manner;
  • Exceptional communication and team working skills;
  • High degree of personal commitment and intercultural competence;

Students from countries outside the EU require a German residence-/work permit. The first master's degree may not have been completed before/during the entire internship.
