This role will be part of the Business Technology Tower for Group Technology, responsible for delivering mission-critical, data-driven, and digital solutions across all business segments and subsidiaries. This includes AI decision support tools, generative AI models (such as Large Language Models), and other data-driven solutions. Business Technology drives the digitalization efforts for Munich Re Group, leading innovation and technological transformation.

It acts as a digital enabler inside the Munich Re group with focus on digital insurance platforms and ecosystems, advanced analytics and artificial intelligence.

Digital products, advanced data analytics and artificial intelligence are focus areas of BT. The teams in Digital Platforms, Data and AI act as a primary contact point for business units to drive topics in this area from ideation to successful value delivery. They partner with all BT units to shape a holistic service offering and aligned roadmap based on concrete business demands. This includes identification and shaping of business demand, definition of implementation options and setting up project or service delivery for data analytics and AI.

As project manager data & AI portfolio, you ensure close alignment between the demand from business stakeholders with the strategic objectives of BT and ensure that the project portfolio can be delivered in line with business expectations, resource requirements and financial boundary conditions. You will work with a multidisciplinary team of project and portfolio managers across all areas of BT to manage our strategic portfolio of projects and products.

Your Job

  • Drive the shaping and development of the project and product portfolio of Business Technology in data and AI solutions.
  • Business stakeholder management incl. alignment of requirements, identification of new business customers, regular communication of project progress and results on a portfolio level.
  • Fostering and managing a healthy backlog of new business ideas and innovations and support them to create a business case and pitch to seek funding.
  • Tracking and managing the key metrics of the portfolio including utilization of resources, HW/SW cost tracking and forecasting and project status evaluation.
  • Regular alignment with the project / product team regarding status, deliverables, backlog, risks & issues in an agile, backlog-driven project approach. Ensure adherence to agile project management standards and reporting requirements of Munich Re.
  • Establish a product mindset for our offering, understanding the customer or consumer and building strong value propositions for Munich Re clients.
  • Managing team rituals and meeting cadence, especially status calls, participating in project and product management activities like quarterly relay planning.

Your Profile

  • Degree in business or technology related studies.
  • Professional experience in financial services, FinTech or related digital services (minimum 3 years).
  • Deep understanding of agile project management best practices, ideally including respective qualifications (Scrum, Munich Re One Essentials).
  • Hands-on experience with project management, reporting and finance tools (e.g., Azure DevOps, Clarity, SAP).
  • Understanding of IT and digital product development processes, ranging from non-functional requirements, security / compliance and idea inception through to development and execution of strategic changes.
  • Experience in managing budgets either through a cost centre or profit centre.
  • “Can do” mentality, enable project teams, see & address issues, find solutions.
  • Demonstrable experience in working with teams in multiple locations and time-zones.
  • Strong analytical and strategic skills, as well as user-oriented and entrepreneurial thinking.
  • Ability to set priorities with an appropriate sense of urgency; applying energy and resources to achieve results and add value. 
  • Ability to present complex situations to peers and stakeholders in a clear and precise way.
  • Fluent command of business English.
