Munich RE via its Primary Insurance entity Great Lakes Insurance SE has been continuously growing its “credit business” over the last decade with significant further growth ambitions for the coming years. One key area of the business is our Global Credit Solutions (GCS) team that offers pari-passu credit risk transfer, limit and capital relief credit insurance solutions both on single risks as well as portfolio basis to financial institutions.

In order to achieve Munich RE’s growth ambition in this area, we are continually building up a heterogenous, multi-talent team of credit experts in different credit areas ranging from corporate to specialty finance (e.g., term loans, working capital solutions, derivatives, leveraged finance, project finance, asset based finance, fund finance).

For this specific position, we are looking for a credit expert as Client Relation Risk Manager (CRRM)/Senior Director, based in Munich or Dublin who has 10-15years of experience with corporate finance transactions with particular focus on Commercial Real Estate.  In this role your task is to attract new bank clients, manage existing bank clients and writing proactive business within your responsibility. As part the role, you will be coordinating the credit decision in conjunction with our Credit Analysts in Risk Underwriting (RUW).

Credit risks are the main underwriting focus in EU/LA5. The team primarily underwrites portfolios of credit risks from banks/financial institutions (FIs) either as reinsurance (MR AG) or as primary insurance (GLISE). The main focus of the advertised position is the management of client relationships and underwriting new business in the area of Residential & Commercial Real Estate Loans (US and Europe).

Your tasks:

  • Develop our global business by underwriting of business either as portfolio or individual risks with a focus on Commercial Real Estate Loans (US, Europe and other relevant markets).
  • Establish new and foster existing client relationships, with focus on the global banks. Identify the key decision makers at Senior Management level within these organisations and establish a personal relationship.
  • Negotiate and finalize of credit risk insurance policies and Master Risk Participation Agreements.
  • Assess the banks origination, risk assessment and work-out capabilities in all relevant finance products.
  • Independently assess the risk of transactions offered by the banks, especially pertaining around Commercial Real Estate risk and align your assessment with the detailed credit analyses of RUW.
  • Structure, negotiate and execute portfolio solutions where they solve client needs and align both client and Munich Re interests.
  • Collaborate with internal central functions (Risk Management, Legal, Reporting, Accounting, Tax) to ensure compliance.
  • Act as subject matter expert within the field of Real Estate to the broader team. 
  • Remain abreast of market trends in Real Estate, relevant regulatory developments (Basel III/IV, CRR, EBA, Solvency II), and emerging risks. Represent Munich Re at relevant industry/conference events and contribute to the development of best practices in credit risk management of Commercial Real Estate. 
  • Ongoing monitoring and review of the Real Estate portfolio.
  • Regularly benchmark portfolio performance, transaction structures, and client solutions against peers to drive continuous improvement.

Your profile:

  • University degree, preferably in business, economics, finance or a related field or equivalent qualification.
  • 10-15 years’ professional experience within a bank, real estate fund or similar financial institution.
  • At least 5-10 years’ professional experience in client management and developing & managing international banks or corporates clients.
  • Several years’ professional experience with credit investment/ banking sector, in particular in Residential/Commercial Real Estate loan products and ideally either field of: origination/ securitization/ structuring methods highly desirable.
  • Several years’ professional experience in the signing risk transfer products between banks and / or insurance companies advantageous.
  • Excellent knowledge in the regulatory requirements of international banks.
  • Superior analytical skills in conjunction with a pronounced risk awareness and sense of responsibility, along with a willingness and ability to justify decisions in a clear and comprehensible manner.
  • Team spirit, initiative, ability to work independently, solution-based approach.
  • Business-level English required; additional excellent foreign-language skills an advantage.  
  • Confident manner, high degree of social skills when interacting with colleagues, clients or in-house interfaces.
