HSB (UK and Ireland) consists of the parent company HSB Engineering Insurance Limited (HSBEIL) together with its two UK subsidiaries, HSB Engineering Inspection Services Limited (HSBEISL); and a regulated MGA, MD Insurance Services Limited (MDIS), which trades as Premier Guarantee or LABC Warranty.

Collectively HSB is the UK and Ireland’s only group of companies solely focused on providing specialist engineering and technology insurance solutions and risk focused inspection services and assessments to its customers.

The Role

The Finance Data & Reporting Lead will play a vital role in shaping how finance data flows through new general ledger systems and enterprise data platforms. This includes designing future-state data processes, improving reporting efficiency, and ensuring that financial data is structured, governed, and utilised effectively across Finance.

The role will work closely with Finance teams, technology colleagues, and data engineering functions to modernise finance data architecture, rebuild legacy processes for efficiency, and upskill Finance colleagues in using Databricks and other tooling. The postholder will contribute directly to improved automation, enhanced data quality, and more insightful financial analysis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and documentation of finance data flows for new general ledger systems and data storage platforms.
  • Act as Finance's subject matter lead on data architecture for transformation programmes.
  • Work closely with data engineering teams to define data models, pipelines, and key integration requirements.

Skills & Experience

  • Strong experience working with financial data, reporting, and underlying data structures.
  • Understanding of general ledger systems and financial control principles.
  • Demonstrable experience building or improving data pipelines, data processes, or reporting solutions as part of process transformation and automation.
  • Proficiency in SQL and strong working knowledge of Databricks or similar data engineering platforms.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience rebuilding file-based processes for efficiency.
  • Effective communication skills, able to engage both technical and non‑technical colleagues.
  • Experience supporting finance transformation programmes.
  • Background working with financial systems or data warehouses.
  • Exposure to IFRS, UK GAAP, and financial reporting requirements.
  • Experience collaborating with data engineering and BI teams.
  • Previous involvement in process automation or data governance initiatives.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships across Finance, IT, and Data teams.
  • Proactive approach to problem solving and challenging existing processes.
  • High standards of documentation and data discipline.

Qualifications and Educational Requirements:

Professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) beneficial but not essential if data experience is strong.
