Hybrid position in Hartford, CT. In-office Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays. Remote work on Mondays and Fridays.

We're currently seeking a highly experienced and skilled subject matter expert to join our team as a Principal Engineer in turbomachinery. As a key member of our engineering team, this role will focus on assessing risks associated with gas turbines, steam turbines, internal combustion engines, and other rotating machinery used in power generation and mechanical drive applications. Your expertise will help us develop risk engineering standards and loss models to inform underwriting decisions and guide risk mitigation and loss prevention activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain risk engineering standards and guidelines for assigned equipment and occupancies.
- Offer expert opinions on equipment operation, maintenance, reliability, and recovery costs and timelines to help underwriters understand functionality and identify potential risks and failure modes.
- Analyze contributing factors and root causes of equipment losses. Assist in claim investigations, review loss data, and develop trends and insights.
- Provide guidelines for engineering risk assessments and loss prevention activities.
- Analyze equipment risks associated with new technologies and opportunities.
- Develop training materials for both internal and external customers.
- Build relationships with equipment manufacturers and participate in technical societies to stay informed about industry trends.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Advanced graduate degree or Professional Engineer registration is a plus
- Minimum 10 years of engineering experience working in design, operation, maintenance, testing, commissioning, or repair services for gas turbines or steam turbines
Knowledge and Skills
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex engineering concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Proficient in using Microsoft Excel or other tools to carry out basic data analysis
- Strong desire to stay up-to-date with industry developments and advancements
- Inquisitive and enthusiastic, with a willingness to learn about new equipment and processes
