This role will be part of the Corporate Functions Tower for Group Technology (IT1.12), which oversees IT service delivery and manages key relationships across all corporate and central units, including Finance, HR, Legal & Compliance, Services/Facilities, and Procurement. The Tower also manages cross-functional domains such as document management, collaboration platforms, corporate websites, and Identity and Access Management (IAM), as well as selected central platforms and Regulatory/Integrated Risk Management (IRM) product delivery.

As part of the Corporate Functions Tower, you will work within a product landscape that supports central reserving across the Munich Re group. This landscape comprises multiple applications and platforms used globally to enable reserving, financial reporting, and related actuarial processes across both Life & Health and P&C (Non-Life) domains, including key platforms such as the Global Reserving Platform.

As a Solution Architect, you will translate business needs into coherent end-to-end solution designs, ensuring they are technically sound, scalable, and aligned with enterprise standards. You will guide multiple products from concept to implementation by shaping architecture decisions and safeguarding long-term sustainability.

Your Job

  • Responsibility for the architecture of solutions across multiple applications, especially leveraging technologies such as .NET / Visual Studio, Microsoft Azure, Azure Data Factory (ADF), Databricks, Azure SQL, and SQL Server
  • Mapping of business requirements to system and technical requirements and ensuring alignment with the enterprise architectural plan  
  • Accountability for defining end-to-end solution designs and ensuring consistency across the product landscape  
  • Oversee adherence to appropriate standards (performance, monitoring capability, auditability, and security) and guide solutions through architecture governance processes where required  
  • Ensure that all solutions fulfill non-functional requirements such as scalability, performance, security, and maintainability  
  • Act as a key interface between business and IT, shaping solution designs based on business needs and ensuring measurable business value  
  • Drive harmonization and evolution of the application landscape towards scalable, integrated, and future-ready architectures  
  • Contribute to the adoption of modern technologies, including data-driven solutions and AI capabilities, to enhance business value and automation  
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to development teams and ensure alignment with architecture principles and enterprise standards  
  • Support strategic decision-making by contributing to technology roadmaps and long-term architecture development  
  • Ensure integration across applications, data platforms, and enterprise services within a global setup  
  • Ensure compliance with Munich Re IT standards, including security, audit, and regulatory requirements  

Your Profile

  • University degree in computer engineering, IT, or similar qualification
  • Several years of professional experience in software development and/or solution architecture, with in-depth knowledge of the full software development life cycle 
  • Proven experience in designing and delivering complex, enterprise-grade IT solutions
  • Strong technical expertise in Microsoft technologies (e.g. .NET, SQL Server, Microsoft Azure, ADF) 
  • Experience with data-driven and analytical platforms (e.g. IBM Planning Analytics/TM1, Databricks, R, Python, PySpark, Power BI) is a plus
  • Solid understanding of system architecture, service-based architecture, enterprise application architecture, and cloud architecture 
  • Strong knowledge of clean coding principles, object-oriented design, and modern development practices, including DevOps
  • Experience in aligning technical solutions with business and financial constraints
  • Knowledge of insurance/reinsurance and reserving processes is beneficial
  • Experience working in regulated environments with a focus on security, auditability, and compliance
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in international and cross-functional teams
  • Cooperative working style with a focus on accountability, ownership, knowledge sharing
  • Fluent spoken and written English
