Senior State & Local Tax Accountant - Hartford, CT Office
Prepare, review, approve, and pay state and local income tax compliance for HSB Group and its U.S. affiliates in a timely manner. This includes but is not limited to annual income and franchise tax returns, quarterly estimated payments and extensions of time to file. Track state net operating loss carryforwards.
Perform general ledger account reconciliations in addition to preparing and submitting journal entries associated with state and local income tax accruals, reserves, and true ups. Investigate and respond to inquiries from tax authorities and assist with internal and external tax audits. Collaborate with manager in conducting state income tax nexus studies. Assist with preparing, reviewing, filing and paying of annual insurance premium tax returns during peak periods.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting is required or equivalent work experience
- Certified Public Accounting (CPA) certification or Master’s is preferred
- 5+ years state and local income tax compliance experience in public accounting and /or private industry is required
- Experience with Thompson Reuters OneSource tax software is preferred
Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong PC skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
- Ability to quickly adapt to accounting software and reporting tools
- Excellent communication and literacy skills
- Ability to work as a team player and independently under tight deadlines
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to effectively manage multiple projects, responsibilities, and prioritize workload
- Basic knowledge of Thompson Reuters Checkpoint or other online tax research tool
- Basic knowledge of PeopleSoft general ledger web-based software and PeopleSoft nVision
