Head of Communications, MRS-GM and UK Region

The Head of COM, MRS-GM and UK Region is accountable for the successful delivery of business marketing, internal and external communications, and media relations for Munich Re Specialty-Global Markets (MRS-GM). Reporting to the Global Chief Marketing Officer, the role translates business priorities into integrated, fit-for-purpose marketing and communications strategies and activity that are clearly prioritized, well-coordinated, and executed with impact in direct support of MRS-GM objectives.

The role positions Communications & Marketing as a strategic, delivery‑focused, business‑first advisor, partnering closely with MRS‑GM leadership to drive growth, protect and enhance reputation, and strengthen employee engagement. As part of Group Communications, the role maintains a strong and active connection to Group Communications centers of excellence, ensuring Group standards, best practices, and global governance frameworks are understood and applied locally. This enables the team to benefit from global expertise and remain fully compliant with Group norms and expectations.

As a senior stakeholder partner, the role builds trusted relationships across the business and steers the annual integrated marketing & communications planning process. This includes translating business strategies into a communication and marketing strategy, including clear priorities and resource plans that enable coordinated execution throughout the year. In support of One Voice initiatives and the broader Global Specialty Insurance (GSI) agenda, the role coordinates closely with GSI Marketing & Communications leadership and peers to inform and shape the strategy.

As Media Spokesperson for the London Insurance Market, the role represents MRS-GM externally, proactively engaging regional and trade media to protect and strengthen the Group’s reputation, visibility, and relevance in the UK market.

The role carries full accountability for people leadership and operational effectiveness, including clear role definition, performance management, coaching, and development. It establishes structured ways of working, strengthens stakeholder relationships, and ensures consistent, high-quality delivery across the team.

The role also holds accountability for staff and non-staff budgets, managing resources in line with the Group Communications Global Functional Leader (GFL) mandate and in close coordination with Finance and the Group Communications Chief of Staff. This includes ensuring transparency, cost discipline, and alignment with approved plans while optimizing resources to support priority outcomes.

In addition to the MRS-GM mandate, the role holds regional responsibility for UK business-agnostic communications, representing approximately 10% of the role’s scope. This includes serving as the UK Regional Communications Lead, participating on the Executive Management Group (EMG), leading communications for leadership messaging, employee updates, and change initiatives, and acting as the regional point of coordination for crisis communications. All crisis and sensitive communications are managed in alignment with Munich headquarters, Group Communications, and established governance frameworks.

Responsibilities:

  • Set direction for and overseeing the delivery of business marketing, internal and external communications, and media relations for MRS-GM, ensuring priorities are clear, integrated, and aligned to business objectives.
  • Provide strategic direction to direct reports, including the heads of marketing, internal communications, and media relations, setting expectations, clarifying accountabilities, managing capacity, and enabling consistent, high-quality delivery across teams.
  • Work closely with MRSGM leadership as a senior advisor
  • Translating business priorities into insight-driven, fit-for-purpose marketing and communications strategies that deliver measurable impact in support of growth, reputation, and employee engagement.
  • Steer the annual integrated marketing & communications planning process, ensuring business strategies are translated into clear priorities, delivery roadmaps, and resource plans that enable coordinate execution.
  • Own the annual business NPS process and ensure stakeholder feedback is systematically translated into improvements to marketing and communications strategies, tactics, and delivery.
  • Represent MRS-GM priorities in coordination with GSI Marketing & Communications leadership, contributing to the development of global strategies and ensuring effective regional activation in support of One Voice initiatives.
  • Maintain strong alignment with Group Communications functional centers of excellence, ensuring Group standards, governance frameworks, and best practices are understood and applied locally, while leveraging global tools, expertise, and capabilities.
  • Provide leadership and governance oversight for media relations and external positioning, acting as media spokesperson for the London Insurance Market and ensuring proactive reputation management across the region.
  • Lead and develop senior leaders and teams, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement through clear role design, performance management, and coaching.
  • Establish and reinforce disciplined ways of working, decision-making frameworks, and stakeholder engagement models to improve responsiveness, clarity, and execution quality.
  • Own accountability for staff and non-staff budgets in line with the Group Communications GFL mandate, ensuring financial discipline, transparency, and alignment with approved plans.
  • Serve as UK Regional Communications Lead for business-agnostic matters, representing approximately 10% of the role’s scope, including participation on the Executive Management Group (EMG), and leadership of regional employee, leadership, and change-related communications.
  • Act as the regional lead for crisis communications, ensuring effective coordination, and escalation across UK entities in alignment with Munich headquarters, Group Communications, and established governance frameworks.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Extensive progressive leadership experience in marketing, communications, media, or related disciplines, with a proven record of increasing scope, accountability, and enterprise impact.
  • Extensive people management experience, including leading senior leaders and managers, setting clear expectations, coaching talent, and building high-performing teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and enable functional heads (e.g., Leads of Marketing, Communications, and Media), providing strategic direction, governance, and accountability while empowering execution.
  • Media / spokesperson experience required
  • Deep knowledge of the specialty insurance market and business, with a strong understanding of how marketing and communications support underwriting, distribution, client engagement, reputation, and growth.
  • Proven business-first mindset, translating commercial and strategic objectives into integrated marketing and communications strategies.
  • Demonstrated bias toward action and results, able to move decisively in ambiguous, high-expectation environments while maintaining appropriate governance.
  • Ability to find a way while building consensus, influencing across complex, matrixed organizations to drive outcomes.
  • Strong owner’s mindset, operating with accountability for outcomes, disciplined prioritization, and a focus on enterprise value creation.
  • Proven ability to build and sustain strong stakeholder and business relationships, acting as a trusted advisor to senior leaders and cross-functional partners.
  • Proven player–coach leadership style, setting strategic direction while selectively engaging at a detailed level to unblock teams and ensure delivery when it matters most.
  • University degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Economics, or a related discipline; an advanced degree (e.g., MBA) or equivalent executive education is an advantage.
