Structural Engineering Manager (LVS) - (m/f/d)*
Location: Home Working (requires travel across the UK)
Division: Technical Hub
Reporting to: Head of Technical Services
As Structural Engineering Manager (LVS), you will lead and manage a remote structural engineering team responsible for the independent, risk-based technical review of structural and geotechnical designs submitted under structural warranty and building control schemes. You will ensure that insured developments achieve appropriate technical standards and that technical risks are identified and managed in line with underwriting appetite.
Your Job
- Lead, support and manage the remote structural engineering team.
- Ensure consistent application of internal procedures and high technical standards.
- Undertake and oversee assessments of structural designs across a wide range of building types — from conceptual design philosophy through to detailed calculations.
- Conduct detailed reviews of geotechnical designs.
- Liaise with developers, contractors and external designers, providing clear technical advice and guidance.
- Confidently challenge technical proposals where necessary while maintaining professional, solution-focused relationships.
- Support site staff on complex technical issues as required.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of internal and external technical standards.
- Provide technical advice to Marketing and Underwriting departments to support informed risk decisions.
- Undertake site inspections to assess compliance with approved designs, Technical Manuals and Codes of Practice.
- Manage multiple case files and deadlines to ensure timely service delivery.
- Undertake any other duties as reasonably required.
Your Profile
- Significant post-qualification experience in structural engineering.
- Strong technical knowledge of Structural Engineering principles applicable to Building Regulations and relevant construction standards.
- Proven in-depth experience in geotechnical design.
- Experience across a broad range of building structures.
- Confidence in constructively challenging external designers and contractors.
- Experience managing or leading a technical team.
- Organised and self-motivated, capable of balancing team leadership and technical casework.
- Commercial awareness within a risk-based environment.
- Ability to undertake site inspections independently.
- Working knowledge of MS Outlook, Word and Excel.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for business use.
