Director Specialty Claims- EPL
Leads a team of specialty adjusters who handle Employment Practices Liability and other professional lines claims. Provides technical oversight of claim file supervision, on a case-by-case basis, to ensure claim files are managed in accordance with established claims management standards. Oversees the investigation, evaluation, resolution, reserving and payment of claims. Demonstrates the ability to implement organizational change, manages mission critical objectives, mentors and develops Specialty Claims Adjusters and effectively communicates in a manner that leads to the realization of the organization’s mission, vision, values and strategic goals. Effectively collaborates with defense counsel, insureds and other stakeholders. Hires and onboards new staff. Is conversant regarding team performance trends, conveys a detailed understanding of the opportunities for improvement and maintains/executes improvement actions that lead to results within established targets.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree with related claims experience. J.D. preferred.
- 7+ years of insurance claim experience in professional liability claims. Experience handling and/or leading a team of Employment Practices Liability claims is preferred.
- Experience in leading and managing all levels of staff relative to experience, tenure and professional development.
- Experience managing panel counsel, litigation guidelines, reviewing law firm billing.
- Experience with other claims-made professional/management liability lines such as Miscellaneous Professional Liability, Contractor's E&O, D&O, Cyber Liability, preferred.
Knowledge and Skills
- Strong leadership skills in terms of teaching, guiding, coaching and developing staff.
- Sound analytical skills in terms of functional, technical and financial information.
- Understand and effectively analyze HSB coverage forms.
- Expert knowledge of Data Management & Analytics.
- Strong understanding of reserve accuracy relative to claim exposures.
- Excellent customer focus and ability to partner with internal and external customers including, but not limited to Legal, Client Companies, Marketing and Underwriting.
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.
- Flexibility and willingness to work in a fast paced, rapidly changing environment.
- Ability to foster teamwork to include conflict resolution, personal and team accountability, openness to influence and team commitment.
