Munich Re Specialty Global Markets North America (MRSGM N.A.) is looking for enthusiastic individuals to join us as we grow. As part of Munich Re Group, we are a unique organization providing expertise in specialty and marine lines of insurance as well as surety risks and customs bonds with in-house claims solutions. 


We are seeking a full time AVP, Inland Marine Regional Underwriting Manager to join the Munich Re Specialty Group Insurance Services division either to be a hybrid employee in one of our regional office locations (Schaumburg, IL, New York, NY, Charleston, SC, Miami, FL, Houston, TX, Long Beach, CA) or a remote employee located in the continental United States reporting to the Vice President of Inland Marine. An Underwriter or Senior Underwriter profile may also be considered depending on qualifications.

Job Profile 
•    Produce book of business by accepting or rejecting accounts based on sound underwriting judgement. Analyze, price, and evaluate new and renewal business.  Effectively manages own assigned agents/brokers as well as Region. Frequently meets with agents/brokers and insureds in order to build and maintain business partnerships and relationships.
•    Ability to Travel within Region to maintain business partnerships and relationships; reinforce and promote the MRSG Inland Marine value proposition.  This is a highly market oriented role requiring visibility and market presence in key markets.
•    Drive Underwriting Standards across assigned business line by assuring standards (underwriting and service) are being met, conducting self-peer reviews (internal audits) to foster consistent and profitable risk selection.
•    Foster a collaborative approach to growing the Inland Marine Business Lines by communicating with peers, identifying profit and loss trends, developing strategic portfolio growth initiatives and information team on changing underwriting standards to drive department profitability goals.
•    Review reports on loss ratios, conduct research on market trends and best practices and be a leader in the implementation innovative underwriting strategies to enhance Inland Marine portfolio and ensure organization is competitive in the market.
•    Build, foster and maintain internal and external relationships within MRSG Inland Marine by leading the delivery of training, utilizing individual credibility to inform on risk exposure decision-making process and leading team to efficiently underwrite business to meet profit goals, service standards, and production.
•    Monitor territorial needs and economic changes to ensure future planning aligns with long-range business growth goals for Region and MRSG Inland Marine.
•    Manage a culture of service and proficiency by actively leading, coaching, and mentoring direct reports (if applicable in the future).
•    Manage budget and resources by forecasting expenditures and properly accounting for Regional Expenses/Corporate Expenses.  Manager will be fiscally responsible and constantly work to meet requirements.
•    Contribute to a positive environment by leading by example; reinforce MRSG Inland Marine Culture and Underwriting Standards.  Be a leader that contributes “extraordinary service, can do, team oriented, performance” attitude.  
•    Responsible for Regional Production as well as employees’ (if applicable) and own production.  Manager will monitor and assess Region’s profitability, mix of business, compliance, and contribute to the enhancement of underwriting tools, platforms, forms, services and standards.


Job Requirements
•    Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and/or work experience.
•    10+ years of relevant experience (note: must have experience in managing a region/territory and leading others).
•    High proficiency in underwriting Inland Marine and advanced working knowledge of underwriting standards.  Particular Motor Truck Cargo, Builder’s Risk, and Contractor’s Equipment expertise required.
•    Understanding of laws and regulations governing class of business and industry.
•    Computer skills: word, excel.
•    Ability to coach and encourage employees towards improving performance, while managing own objectives.
•    Excellent time management skills.
•    Ability to negotiate to a mutually beneficial and desired outcome (internal and external).
•    Open to collaboration with others at all levels within organization to accomplish common goal.
•    Team Leader that understands the service needs of internal co-workers, employees (as applicable), and external customers.
•    Existing relationships within Region and ability to bring a book are an advantage.
•    Construction Property and Logistics Expertise are a distinct advantage.
•    Working Knowledge of AAIS forms
•    Experience with both Non-Admitted and Admitted Paper

MRSGM N.A. is open to considering candidates in numerous locations, including Schaumburg, IL. The salary range posted below applies to the Company’s Schaumburg, IL location. The base salary range anticipated for this position is $100,000 to $160,000. In addition, the Company makes available a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, 401k match, paid holidays, sick time, and paid vacation. The salary estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for candidates hired in this position in Schaumburg, IL. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role. Most candidates will start in the bottom half of the range.
