The Group Investment Management (GIM) division is responsible for managing the proprietary Munich Re and ERGO investment portfolio of around €250bn. Within the Investment Strategies business unit of GIM, the Alternative Investments department is responsible for the alternative asset strategy as well as its implemention of the whole Munich Re Group. This implies that, on the basis of the long term strategic allocation (SAA), a granular strategy is built and regularly updated to adjust for the changes in the political/economic environment and movements in the capital markets.

Within this challenging environment you strengthen the team “Real Assets – Alternative Investments” which covers the asset classes like infrastructure, real estate, agriculture, and forestry as an Investment Manager.

Your Job

  • Analysing market trends and giving input to the capital market views of GIM
  • Analysis and assessing of risk-return characteristics of the individual investment as well as in portfolio context
  • Support defining Investment Guidelines by setting specific limits as well as qualitative constraints
  • Assessment of individual transactions and the stability of assumptions in the financial model
  • Analysis of potential accounting effects (IFRS, local GAAP) of a single investments
  • Coordination of the risk analysis (technical, insurance specific) in the due diligence process as well as in the operational mode
  • Reviewing investment proposals and monitoring the Group’s Real Assets
  • Preparation of decisions recommending investments and divestment opportunities
  • Support analysis / judgement within the asset manager selection process
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders

Your Profile

  • Excellent university degree
  • Several years of relevant professional experience in an insurance company, bank, management consultancy or financial services provider
  • In depth knowledge of at least one of the real asset classes (e.g. fundamental analysis, valuation of transactions)
  • Knowledge about project/corporate valuation
  • Experience in modelling the risks of capital investments
  • Good macroeconomic and technical understanding
  • Understanding of the restrictions for the investment process (such as rating, solvency, accounting, taxes) of an (re-)insurance company and the various legal units
  • Knowledge of quantitative methodologies and procedures in asset management, e.g. financial mathematics, statistics, data analysis and portfolio optimization etc.
  • Strategic thinker and a pragmatic problem solver possessing initiative, creativity, assertiveness and the ability to work under pressure
  • High social competence ensuring smooth interaction with many interfaces
  • Clear and convincing team-spirited communicator who is fluent in both German and English
