We are looking for a Consultant Business Analytics (m/f/d)* for the section Biometric Analysis and Insights.

The team is part of the Risk Intelligence and Knowledge Systems unit of Munich Re Life & Health division in Munich, which serves as a regional analytics centre (RAC) for Europe, UK and Latin Americas. The department is responsible for data and AI strategy development and execution, biometrics insights and knowledge modelling for more than 50 markets, for 500+ cedents, and 1,500+ active reinsurance contracts. We strategically invest in scalable, easy-to-use data and knowledge technologies to create and operationalize high quality products and services using structured and unstructured data, serving both internal and external clients. We believe that better data and advanced analytics can strengthen our reinsurance core and service business and will be the foundation for the business models of tomorrow.

We are looking for a highly motivated and ambitious individual to join our team as a Consultant Business Analytics for the Life & Health MUC Hub – the hub is responsible for all Life and Health Reinsurance business in Continental Europe (w/o Iberia, Italy, Malta) and Israel. The position will report into the Head of Section, Biometric Insights and Analysis.

You will ensure high quality of data management, experience studies, biometrics portfolio analysis, best estimate derivation and pricing support with the focus on traditional statistical methods, actuarial models, and biometrics insights. Your Job

  • Overseeing and managing the comprehensive portfolio data provided by cedents, extracting insights while efficiently handling and integrating seriatim data files from both internal and external sources
  • Support design, implementation and operations of the IT infrastructure and data management systems of the Life & Health division in Munich
  • Automating the data processing of recurring data deliveries (incoming and outgoing) by designing and implementing ETL processes (ETL = extraction, transformation, loading)
  • Performing data analyses of incoming data files (“exploratory data analysis”) to discover data patterns; understanding, visualizing, and summarizing the data; estimating the quality and discovering oddities and outliers
  • Providing data to downstream processes (pricing, underwriting, medical functions, claims, experience studies, valuation), assuring a very high-quality standard
  • Using traditional and modern statistical methods for the purpose of actuarial analysis in life and health (re)insurance, in particular A/E’s, GLMs and decision-tree ensembles
  • Conducting experience studies and other analyses along the whole (re)insurance value chain in close cooperation with subject matter experts aligning the data driven results with their expert judgement to develop a holistic assessment
  • Identifying future trends that are relevant for actuarial analytics in life and health insurance, and turning insight into value generation through development and continuous enhancement of methods and tools
  • Driving and contributing to cross-functional actuarial analysis and analytics initiatives in close collaboration with interfaces (Client Management, Best Estimates, Pricing, Business Development, Medical, Underwriting, Claims, regional Risk Intelligence and Knowledge Systems team)
  • Supporting actuarial processes throughout the whole life and health (re)insurance value chain
  • Driving and contributing to the actuarial structuring and pricing processes of reinsurance treaties e.g. by using actuarial modelling software
  • Advising on and contributing to possible solutions to optimise reinsurance for both Munich Re and our clients
  • Providing actuarial and analytical expertise to support the development of new initiatives, white label insurance products and projects within the business unit's strategic framework
  • Representing the team and our key topics vis-à-vis internal and external stakeholders, for example through presentations at client meetings and events or training seminars

Your Profile

  • Excellent degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics or similar degree
  • Excellent analytical and statistical skills combined with practical experiences in tools like R, Python, Power BI and the willingness to continuously improve your skills
  • Proven practical multi-year experience with data analytics methods, including multivariate methods such as GLMs
  • Practical experience implementing ETL processes for data imports and exports
  • Very good database knowledge (database design, SQL, stored procedures, administration)
  • Very good knowledge of modern statistical and machine-learning methods
  • Very high level of motivation paired with the capacity to take responsibility and work independently
  • Professional experience in actuarial department of a life or health (re)insurer is desirable
  • Actuary or similar qualification or willingness to obtain such qualification
  • Strong presentation, consulting, and project management skills
  • Strong command of spoken and written English and German
