Position Overview

We are seeking an accomplished Chief Actuary to lead the corporate actuarial function for the U.S. Life business. This role will provide strategic leadership, technical expertise, and governance across all actuarial valuation and reporting activities. The Chief Actuary will oversee a team of approximately 40 professionals, including a shared North American modeling team, and will be accountable for delivering high-quality actuarial analysis, financial reporting, and capital management aligned with global and U.S. regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Executive Leadership

    • Oversee and approve the LH3 IFRS and Solvency II valuation results, ensuring compliance with global standards and manuals of methods
    • Serve as the U.S. Statutory Appointed Actuary and Bermuda Appointed Actuary, providing formal actuarial opinions and reports in compliance with U.S. and Bermuda regulatory standards.
    • Act as a strategic partner to executive management, influencing business decisions
    • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing actuarial department of ~40 professionals, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and collaboration.

  • Financial Reporting & Capital Management

    • Oversee actuarial aspects of IFRS 17/9, Solvency II, U.S. Statutory, and Bermuda Solvency Capital Requirement reporting, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance.
    • Provide actuarial expertise for valuation, capital management, asset-liability management, and reinsurance structuring.
    • Ensure robust methodologies for valuation of reserves and financial projections.

  • Modeling & Analytics

    • Co-lead the shared North American Model Development team along with the LH4 Chief Actuary
    • Ensure models meet regulatory and internal risk standards, while supporting business planning and capital analysis.

  • Governance & Risk Management

    • Maintain strong relationships with U.S. regulators, auditors, rating agencies, and industry bodies.
    • Strengthen actuarial controls, governance frameworks, and risk management practices.
    • Provide independent actuarial judgment and challenge to senior leadership.

  • Collaboration

    • Partner with CLR to align methodologies and approaches across IFRS 17 and Solvency II.
    • Work closely with finance, risk, and pricing functions to drive integrated decision-making.

Qualifications

  • Professional Credentials: Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA); Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA) with eligibility to sign U.S. statutory opinions.
  • Experience: Minimum 15+ years of progressively responsible actuarial leadership experience within reinsurance, life insurance or actuarial consulting.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Deep expertise in U.S. statutory requirements, Bermuda capital standards, IFRS 17, and Solvency II.
  • Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead large high performance teams, influence senior stakeholders, and manage complex projects in a global organization.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong background in valuation, capital, modeling platforms, and risk-based capital frameworks.
  • Ability to effectively manage change, work in uncertain environments, and achieve desired outcomes
  • Location Requirement: Based in New York with a minimum of 4 days per week in-office presence.
