Regulatory Framework – SM&CR:

This role is a Certified Function under the Senior Managers & Certification Regime (SM&CR), specifically a Significant Management Function. The individual in this position must remain fit and proper at all times, adhering to the FCA Handbook, COCON, and all relevant regulations.

Purpose of the Role:

The Head of Broking leads the Broking function and is a key member of the Executive team. This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on delivery, driving business growth, strengthening market relationships, and ensuring successful execution of our broking strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

Department Leadership & Governance

  • Lead and develop the Broking team to achieve commercial, operational, and quality objectives
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and legal requirements
  • Maintain robust operational effectiveness and risk management
  • Promote and uphold COCON standards and technical excellence
  • Foster a culture of learning, collaboration, and accountability

Broking & Market Engagement

  • Lead negotiations and placement of delegated authority agreements with Lloyd’s syndicates and capacity providers
  • Oversee all broking activity and related data analysis
  • Maintain deep knowledge of market developments and emerging opportunities
  • Assess new products, innovations, and market capabilities to support client needs

Business Development

  • Drive strategic growth through client and partner engagement
  • Build new business pipelines through proactive outreach and market networking
  • Maintain structured and senior-level client engagement programmes
  • Promote MRSNA-BA capabilities across key market relationships

Relationship Management

  • Serve as the senior point of contact for coverholders, clients, and market partners
  • Support onboarding of new coverholders and ongoing relationship management
  • Ensure timely and accurate service delivery across the policy lifecycle
  • Champion a fair-customer-outcome culture

Executive Responsibilities

  • Translate Group strategy into actionable plans for the Broking function
  • Prepare budgets, performance reports, and contribute to Board-level decision-making
  • Attend and contribute to Executive and governance committee meetings
  • Lead Continuous Conversations and talent development efforts within the team
  • Chair the Broking Committee and participate in other committees as required

Authority & Delegation

  • Act in accordance with MRSNA-BA’s signatory and authority frameworks
  • Initiate recruitment within budget
  • Cheque signatory and electronic payment authority per operational procedures

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Membership of a relevant professional body (preferred)
  • Extensive experience delivering commercial targets and understanding client needs
  • Proven leadership and strategic management experience within insurance broking
  • Strong market reputation and ability to develop new business opportunities
  • Demonstrated capability in financial and budget management
