Reporting to the Head of Property Underwriting, the successful candidate will become part of a motivated and open-minded team of eleven underwriters and actuaries and will be responsible for a book of European property treaty business with focus on the DACH region. The team takes pride in a collaborative and flexible work mode that is based on trust, dedication and mutual support. Once onboarded, you will quickly take over account responsibility with the support of your NewRe colleagues. This comprises of technical pricing and contract analysis as well as internal and external stakeholder management.

Your responsibilities

Underwriting of European property treaty reinsurance business with main tasks being:

  • Pricing, modelling and risk assessment of new and existing treaty business
  • Negotiating transactions and contract wordings within defined risk appetite and guidelines
  • Ensuring documentation and traceability of the Underwriting process and portfolio being correctly reflected in accounting and claims systems
  • Initiating and taking part in projects aimed at improving technical insights (pricing, modelling, benchmarking) and operational standards
  • Managing client and broker relationships and participating in origination activities to develop new business
  • Formulating and executing on clients and portfolio strategies reflecting market conditions, risk appetite and overarching strategic objectives
  • Managing necessary information exchange with internal stakeholders such as Reserving, Claims, Accounting and Risk Management
  • Actively participating in NewRe specific and Group projects

Your profile

  • Qualification: University degree or equivalent higher education in relevant field  
  • Experience: 8+ years of relevant professional work experience from the reinsurance/insurance sector; experience from the DACH market a strong plus
  • Skills: Strong team player with highly-developed analytical skills and ability to learn quickly. Can-do mindset with good business acumen; curiosity and creativity to try new things and propose new ideas. Pro-active in engaging with clients/brokers with natural ability to handle complex negotiations.
  • Knowledge: Deep knowledge about Natural Catastrophe modelling considered a strong plus
  • Language: Excellent command of English and German, additional language considered a plus
  • Willingness to travel in Europe (10% of time)
