Risk Specialist

Job Description

Responsible for working with both HSB and Munich Re Underwriters to support profitable underwriting, by delivering timely and targeted account evaluations in high risk occupancies.  The Specialist will apply advanced technical knowledge and experience to provide detailed risk evaluations of an account by interpreting factors such as design, condition, operations, maintenance, and human elements.  The Specialist will determine how to improve/manage the risk through account engineering, loss control initiatives and consultative risk control engineering services.

Regularly performs site visits to evaluate risk.  Plans and oversees loss control activities to reduce underwriting exposusures for assigned high risk accounts.  Uses a consultative approach with the insured to implement recommendations and reduce risk. 

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related discipline can be counted for 5 years of experience
• 10+ years experience in high value/risk occupancy industries, boiler inspection, or insurance engineering. High value/risk occupancies include: power generation, primary metals, mining, pulp & paper, sugar, or glass

Knowledge and Skills

• Comprehensive understanding of at least one high risk occupancies
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication
• Self-starter; Able to work with limited supervision and manage competing priorities
• Understanding of insurance industry and underwriting term
• Strong interviewing, presentation, and training skills
