Head of Property & Engineering (m/f/d*)

We are currently looking for a Head of Property & Engineering to be based in Milan, Italy, on a full-time basis, reporting to the Head of Underwriting, MRS-GM Italy.

This is a unique opportunity to lead the growth of Munich Re Specialty's Property & Engineering business in Italy. You will define and execute the local underwriting strategy, strengthen our market presence, build long-term relationships across the industry, and develop a high-performing team while contributing to the broader ambitions of Munich Re Specialty across Europe.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the development and growth of Munich Re Specialty's Property & Engineering business in Italy.
• Define and execute the local underwriting and business strategy, aligned with regional and global objectives.
• Drive profitable portfolio growth through disciplined underwriting, effective risk selection and strong broker engagement.
• Originate, negotiate and underwrite complex Property & Engineering risks within delegated authority.
• Build and strengthen strategic relationships with brokers, clients, MGAs and other key market stakeholders.
• Identify emerging market trends, opportunities and risks to support business growth and maintain a competitive market position.
• Recruit, mentor and lead a high-performing underwriting team, fostering technical excellence, innovation and collaboration.
• Work closely with underwriting, claims, legal, compliance and finance colleagues to deliver exceptional client service and sustainable long-term growth.

Knowledge and Skills

• Minimum 10 years' experience in Property & Engineering underwriting.
• Strong knowledge of the Italian insurance market and distribution landscape.
• Proven track record in underwriting complex Property & Engineering risks and developing profitable portfolios.
• Strong commercial acumen and business development capabilities.
• Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to build, mentor and develop teams.
• Entrepreneurial mindset with a solution-oriented approach to client needs.
• Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
• Fluency in Italian and English.
