About Facultative & Corporate:

Munich Re’s large, international network of experts places us in a strong position to develop solutions for highly complex risks. The sectors we serve and the solutions we offer are diverse, but they all share one thing in common: the substantial financial foundation of Munich Re. The industrial insurance arm of Munich Re Group, which means our clients are multinational corporations. We write both traditional and non-traditional insurances through 6 lines of business; namely, Property, Energy, Casualty, Engineering, Cyber and what we term Special Enterprise Risks. We overlay these underwriting activities with support from our Client Management and Claims & Operations units.

Our clients are complex, diverse, and domiciled across the world. Therefore, we also need to be global, and we do this by positioning staff in strategic markets and locations as well as travelling to meet clients. Close contacts are very important.

About the role: We – GC/NA4.2.91 located in London and responsible for property business via London brokers, targeting the US, Caribbean, Australia, NZ, and Latam – are looking for an experienced, engaged and motivated underwriter to strengthen our team.

You will work in the London office and write large and complex risks across all general property industry segments, with particular focus on the existing and upcoming facultative facilities and Nat Cat exposure.

This is an INTERNAL ROLE only, which would either be a rotation (2+2) or with a view to a permanent role.

Key Responsibilities:

• Underwriting, e.g. assessment and pricing of risks and exposures, analysis of policy wordings and R/I certificates etc., of complex property risks in line with given authorities and guidelines
• Optimizing, developing and maintaining a profitable portfolio including consideration of accumulation on a per risk and portfolio basis
• Establishing, expanding and maintaining client and broker business relationships including client/broker visits
• Contributing to the development of underwriting and portfolio strategies including proactive implementation
• Working on market, industry and portfolio analyses
• Identifying new trends for specific industries and client needs, providing ideas to generate new business opportunities and products
• Participating in and driving initiatives, working groups and projects
• Ensuring a collaborative, transparent and productive cooperation with relevant interfaces and stakeholders throughout all divisions and regions

Key Skills & Experience:

• Experience in underwriting facultative property and a good knowledge of the relevant markets, key occupancies and perils
• Profound knowledge and experience in the application of all relevant Munich Re underwriting and reporting tools as well as underwriting guidelines
• Particular experience in managing facultative facilities.
• High affinity towards IT, i.e. digitalization and automation
• Very customer-focused with excellent communication, negotiation and presentation skills, ability to build strong relationships with clients and brokers
• Strongly committed and motivated team player with the ability to work independently and cross-functionally with a diverse group of stakeholders
• Excellent networking and intercultural skills
• Excellent analytical and conceptual, problem solving and solution-oriented skills, open-minded thinking and very good decision-making capabilities
• Willingness to travel
• Excellent spoken and written English is essential

Desired Qualifications and Educational Background:

• CII or equivalent desirable

Regulatory & Conduct Requirements:

In addition to the responsibilities set out above, you will also become responsible for:

• Ensure compliance with Insurance Distribution Directive
• Satisfying all regulatory reporting requirements in collaboration with the reporting function
• Ensuring compliance with Munich Re’s Code of Conduct and the FCA Conduct Rules
