Purpose:

Directs and oversees Specialty Clients, responsible for the program business within American Modern.  Specialty Clients includes the following areas: Account Management, Product Development, Underwriting, Operations, and New Program Onboarding.  This position also works closely with Program Partner Leadership and internal business unit leaders to achieve and sustain alignment in support of the Specialty Client strategy and annual plan.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Ownership of overall growth and profitability targets for Specialty Clients.
  • Reports to Chief Sales & Marketing Officer with dotted line reporting to Chief Underwriting Officer.
  • Manage and cultivate relationships with key account leadership; ensuring alignment for profitable growth.
  • Develop strategy, set priorities, implement, and monitor program business plan for profitable growth, including direction for implementing appropriate corrective measures as necessary. 
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of program(s) structure, accounts, and overall industry of program business.
  • Develop and maintain a pipeline of new program opportunities for Specialty Clients.  Builds relationships throughout the program industry to bring new program opportunities to AMIG.
  • Negotiate program partner contracts including commission and profit share/sliding commission.
  • Works closely with Finance to build Pro Formas for new program opportunities.
  • Coordinate internal cross functional team(s) for assessment of and onboarding new program opportunities.
  • Collaborate with internal business units for execution of cross-functional program  management including coordination and/or facilitation of communications or action plans with program administrators to modify processes/procedures or resolve issues that require participation with program administrator.  (i.e. Actuarial, State Relations, Accounting, Claims, Underwriting, etc.).
  • Understand, oversee and monitor compliance and controls (AMIG, Munich Re, State, Federal). Collaboratively work with Operational Risk and Compliance to validate controls internally and with Program Partners through monitoring, audits, reporting, etc.
  • Leads, manages, and develops associates for professional growth and achievement.
  • Develop division budgets and annual program plans; forecast program profit and loss.
  • Travel estimated to be 15-25%.  Will vary based on conference schedule, client requirements, and new program identification.

Required Technical Skills:

  • Analytical ability to understand data manipulation, analysis, and problem solving.
  • Understanding of pricing methodologies.

Skills / Knowledge / Experience:

  • Adeptly develops planning strategies, prepares budgets, manages profit and loss, while meeting aggressive deadlines for the overall development and implementation of product initiatives for program accounts.
  • Skillfully manages internal and external relationships to further Specialty Clients' risk appetite. 
  • Capably leads and motivates direct reports to support achievement of objectives.

Education, Certifications & Designations: 

Required: 

  • Bachelor's degree

Preferred: 

  • Master’s degree and/or insurance coursework leading to an industry designation (CPCU, FCAS)
