Head of Business Architecture and Product Ownership
This is a rare opportunity to step into a newly created senior leadership role at a pivotal moment in American Modern’s transformation journey. As Head of Business Architecture and Product Ownership, you will help shape how strategy becomes execution across the enterprise, building the capability roadmap, product ownership discipline, and governance practices that will support long-term growth, modernization, and business impact.
Reporting to the Chief Digital and Operations Officer, this leader will have executive visibility and the opportunity to influence across business, technology, data, operations, and transformation teams. The role is designed for someone who can connect the big picture to practical execution, turning complex priorities into clear roadmaps, scalable capabilities, and measurable outcomes.
The ideal candidate is a strategic change leader who thrives in a highly collaborative environment and can earn trust across American Modern business leaders, Munich Re stakeholders, technology and data partners, product owners, transformation teams, and external partners. This is a high-impact opportunity for a leader who brings business architecture expertise, product ownership maturity, enterprise influence, and the confidence to help shape what comes next.
Key Responsibilities:
Enterprise Capability Strategy & Business Architecture
- Shape and steward the enterprise capability model and roadmap, helping AMIG connect strategic priorities, Munich Re alignment, business needs, and modernization goals into a clear path forward.
- Create clarity and momentum across value streams, workflows, and business processes by identifying opportunities to simplify, standardize, and scale while preserving the specialty insurance expertise that makes AMIG distinctive.
- Serve as a thought leader on capability maturity, operating model design, business architecture frameworks, and transformation priorities that help the organization move with focus and discipline.
Product Ownership, Roadmap Governance & Prioritization
- Turn enterprise strategy into actionable priorities, decision guardrails, and roadmap governance practices that help Product Owners deliver the right work at the right time.
- Build, coach, and lead a team of high-performing Product Owners, including dotted-line relationships when Product Owners are embedded in business units, while creating a culture of rigor, collaboration, accountability, and thought diversity.
- Guide roadmap prioritization and sequencing decisions by balancing value, risk, dependencies, regulatory needs, readiness, change capacity, and enterprise trade-offs.
Technology, Data & Platform Enablement
- Partner closely with technology, data, analytics, architecture, and delivery leaders to shape enterprise-grade platform solutions that enable future-ready capabilities.
- Advance data-enabled, scalable enterprise capabilities that are grounded in business outcomes, operational usability, and sustainable adoption.
- Bring forward relevant product, platform, data, automation, and digital trends that can strengthen AMIG’s operating model and create broader opportunities across Munich Re.
Stakeholder Leadership & Organizational Influence
- Build trusted, productive relationships with AMIG executives, Munich Re stakeholders, business leaders, technology and data partners, product owners, and external partners.
- Influence and align cross-organizational teams around shared priorities, practical decisions, and disciplined execution.
- Champion KPI-driven decision-making that creates transparency, strengthens mutual understanding, and supports clear alignment on enterprise trade-offs.
What We’re Looking For:
- A seasoned leader with 10 or more years of experience in business architecture, product ownership, enterprise transformation, operating model design, technology-enabled business change, or a related discipline.
- Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or other advanced degree preferred.
- Experience developing enterprise capability models, roadmaps, transformation plans, and governance mechanisms in complex environments.
- Exposure to agile delivery, scaled product practices, Lean, DMAIC, portfolio management, project management, or enterprise transformation methods.
- A collaborative leadership style with the ability to earn trust, negotiate priorities, and build alignment across business, technology, data, finance, transformation, and executive stakeholders.
- A clear communication style with the ability to translate complex business and technical topics into executive narratives, decision materials, and actionable recommendations.
- A strong understanding of insurance operations, including policy, underwriting, billing, claims, distribution, and related data and technology capabilities.
- A track record of partnering with technology, data, analytics, enterprise architecture, delivery, finance, and change management teams to shape and deliver transformation outcomes.
- The ability to build business cases, conduct financial and portfolio analysis, and communicate meaningful trade-offs to executive audiences.
Why This Role Matters:
This role offers the opportunity to influence enterprise direction, shape how work gets prioritized and delivered, and help build the connective tissue between strategy, technology, data, and execution.
