Corporate Underwriting bundles activities for supporting high-quality risk-adequate underwriting in the reinsurance segment. Its core function is to ensure that Munich Re meets its own claim to “best in class’' in underwriting. The section "Casualty, Marine, Aviation & Cross Line" as part of Corporate Underwriting Non-Life supports the business units to profitably expand Munich Re’s non-life business. The main responsibility is the implementation of the risk management and business support function Casualty, Marine and Aviation regarding the following core functions: Underwriting Strategies, Portfolio Control, Risk Assessment, Emerging Risk Identification, Quantification and Control of Man Made Accumulation Risks and certain cross-line topics.

We are looking for a Senior Corporate Underwriter with a focus on Casualty business to support our team.

Your Job

  • Developing company-wide perspectives on underwriting-related topics at Munich Re
  • Identifying, analyzing and following up on Casualty underwriting related topics, trends and developments with high strategic relevance for our Casualty portfolio and deriving recommendations
  • Setting best practice standards, underwriting guidelines, policies and strategies for all aspects of underwriting and implementing appropriate quality assurance measures
  • Supporting and advising the underwriting units on daily questions and complex issues pertaining to the underwriting of individual Casualty treaties or risks, including non-traditional reinsurance
  • Analyzing and assessing complex and/or large treaties and single risks or new products
  • Leading or participating in underwriting related cross-divisional projects and reviews
  • Quality assurance of publications and presentations in the line of business topics
  • Development of line of business relevant knowledge including design and implementation of corresponding training measures in cooperation with CU Knowledge Management
  • Recognizing any need for generating and transferring Line of business specific underwriting knowledge within the Group and developing and carrying out initiatives to improve the underwriting excellence in the business units
  • Stakeholder management including regular communication measures appropriate for the target groups (e.g. business units, other CU units)

Your Profile

  • Recognized reinsurance expert with in-depth knowledge and several years of extensive practical experience in Casualty Treaty underwriting
  • Comprehensive underwriting expertise in Liability and Motor reinsurance - both proportional and non-proportional
  • Hands-on experience serving clients in developed markets, including international as well as regional clients
  • Strong understanding of primary insurance products and evolving legal environments
  • Ability to combine a solid technical underwriting background with excellent strategic skills, including the capacity to think holistically, conceptually, and abstractly
  • Sound understanding of portfolios and portfolio steering, including Munich Re’s tool and reporting landscape
  • A strong passion for performance, a willingness to take on responsibility, and the ability to make sound decisions, while inspiring others with enthusiasm and commitment
  • Extensive experience in project management with a proven track record of successful project execution
  • Enjoyment in tackling complex and innovative challenges in a dynamic and demanding environment
  • Good understanding of business challenges and solution-orientation
  • Methodological and didactic skills, inter-cultural competence
  • Team player with experience working alongside diverse stakeholders
  • Keen interest in emerging topics, trends, and developments, such as emerging risks and exposures
  • Excellent networking abilities
  • Excellent command of English, both written and spoken
